The Great Wildebeest Migration is one of the most impressive natural phenomena in the world. Every year, over 1.3 million wildebeest and hundreds of thousands of other animals migrate from the Serengeti in Tanzania to the Masai Mara in Kenya. The journey is around 1,800 miles (2,900 km) long and takes around three months to complete.

The migration is timed to coincide with the rainfall patterns in the two countries. The wildebeest spend the wet season in the Serengeti, where the grass is long and green. As the rains start to dry up in late August, the wildebeest begin their journey north to the Masai Mara, where the grass is still green and there is plenty of water.
